Book Review - Epic Content Marketing: How to Tell a Different Story, Break Through the Clutter, and Win More Customers by Marketing Less Book by Joe Pulizzi
As I am writing this, I want you all to take my book review with a grain of salt. The most beautiful aspect of opinion is that it differs.

I am more of a fiction and creative reader, but I do read one or two non-fiction books to keep in touch with the marketing world. As I picked up this book, I realised that it was a little outdated and, in my very humble opinion, did not possess many actionable ideas. Yes, there were plenty of case studies, but the guidance or technical advice that I was looking for wasn’t found. The book was written in 2013, and you can pick that up from the mind-numbing pace of the book.
I must admit I had great expectations for the book, and it was a disappointment. Also, the central message of the book is targeted towards the CCO, or chief marketer. If you are a creative content creator, social media manager, booming digital marketer, or a small business aiming to do your own marketing, this might not be the book for you.
For someone who preached that ads are interruptions, borderline invasive and uninteresting, he must know that numerous case studies and boasting about his experience won’t be very helpful for upcoming content creators who bought the book to learn the skill.
If I could summarise all the "useful" and "actionable" points of the book, it would only have enough content for an amazing blog post and not a book. And I say this with the utmost respect for the author.
As I am a "cup is half filled’ type of person, I am going to list the takeaways I was able to obtain from the book:
- Don’t follow the old ways of advertising. Create interesting content.
- Understand your audience to market your niche.
- Make use of social and learn SEO if you want to flourish in content marketing.
There are far more interesting and educational books out there in the market for digital and content marketing. So, would I recommend you buy this?
Nah, you can pass.
